Professional focus

Selected experience across strategy, performance and technical assurance.

Strategy, evidence and assurance recur throughout the work. The selected work includes hydraulic modelling, CFD modelling, non-revenue water studies, technical peer reviews and independent water infrastructure advisory.

01

Network strategy & investment

Where should long-term investment create the greatest resilience?

Selected experience in risk-led trunk-main strategy, investment pathways and the evidence that supports a defensible case.

  • Risk, consequence and lifecycle value
  • Adaptive investment pathways
  • Asset priorities and governance
02

System performance

What is the physical and operational evidence telling us?

Hydraulic modelling, CFD modelling, non-revenue water studies, leakage, pressure and water-asset performance - with the focus on the decision that follows.

  • Hydraulic and CFD evidence
  • Non-revenue water and pressure prioritisation
  • Operational and retrofit choices
03

Technical review & assurance

Can the proposed approach be relied upon?

Independent engineering judgement, technical peer review and assurance applied to strategies, models, designs and live-system delivery interfaces.

  • Model and design-basis review
  • Technical peer review and challenge
  • Technical governance and stage gates

Selected work

Water-infrastructure experience, told through the decisions made.

These anonymised examples show the technical evidence, personal role and programme-level outcome behind a small selection of assignments.

01Strategy & investment

Risk-led trunk-main strategy for London

Decision

How should investment protect customers and reduce failure exposure without funding the wrong assets?

Personal role

Led infrastructure strategy and co-authored the regulatory enhancement case within a wider multidisciplinary programme.

Outcome

A multi-period investment pathway targeted the highest-risk 600 km of London trunk mains within a 3,600 km network and supported a £150m regulatory trunk-main enhancement case.

02Diagnostics & optimisation

Probabilistic leakage and intervention prioritisation

Decision

Where should field resources be deployed when leakage evidence and water balances remain uncertain?

Personal role

Led the analytical framework, combining probabilistic water-balance analysis with condition and operational risk scoring.

Outcome

The risk-led programme contributed to approximately 12 MLD/year of leakage savings and supported around 120 proactive repairs each year.

03Advanced modelling

CFD diagnostics for water quality and asset performance

Decision

Do flow behaviour and residence time justify an operating change, targeted retrofit or capital intervention?

Personal role

Established and led a specialist CFD service line, from scoping and model development to interpretation and recommendation.

Outcome

8+ specialist commissions supported water-quality assurance, retrofit evaluation and investment decisions for 4 water utilities.

04Technical assurance

Live-system assurance for a major transmission upgrade

Decision

Can new pumping, storage and transmission works be integrated without compromising live-network operation?

Personal role

Led construction-stage design review and technical assurance across submissions, interfaces and stakeholder coordination.

Outcome

Independent governance supported construction readiness and resilient integration of 64 MIGD pumping capacity, storage and major mains.

Working approach

From diagnosis to delivery confidence.

The work is structured to make the next decision clearer, not to create analysis for its own sake.

  1. 01

    Diagnose

Frame the decision, evidence, constraints and material uncertainty.

  2. 02

    Evaluate

Test performance, options, lifecycle value, risk and implementation reality.

  3. 03

    Decide

Translate the evidence into a clear recommendation and investment pathway.

  4. 04

    Assure

Protect technical integrity through governance, review and delivery interfaces.

Portfolio evidence

Technical methods chosen for the question at hand.

These capabilities recur across the work. They are tools for making an intervention, investment or governance choice clearer - not standalone products.

01

Hydraulic modelling

Network capacity, pressure, resilience, reinforcement and operational options.

02

CFD modelling

Mixing, residence time, water quality and decision-relevant flow behaviour.

03

Non-revenue water studies

Probabilistic water balances, leakage, pressure and intervention priorities.

04

Technical peer reviews

Independent review of strategies, models, designs and business cases.

05

Asset risk modelling

Condition, consequence and operational exposure in a single framework.

06

Network analytics & decision tools

GIS, SCADA, monitoring and field evidence connected to action.

Leadership context

Evidence of impact, without losing the water focus.

The portfolio centres on water-system decisions. The wider leadership record provides the scale and context in which those decisions have been made.

Where an independent perspective can help

Useful points to bring in an experienced second view.

Not a menu of products: simply the kinds of decision moments where a focused conversation can clarify the evidence, risks and next steps.

01

Before an investment commitment

When a strategy, business case or asset-priority decision needs a clear challenge on evidence, risk and lifecycle value.

02

When performance is unclear

When network, pumping, storage or treatment-asset behaviour needs to be understood before an operating or capital response is chosen.

03

At an assurance stage

When a model, design basis, option study or technical proposal needs an independent engineering view before a commitment is made.

04

Across live-system interfaces

When delivery, commissioning and operational resilience must be considered together rather than as separate technical workstreams.
